Diamond Jubilee marked by flotilla

A picture of London's skyline

Britain's maritime heritage is to be the focal point of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, when a 1,000-boat flotilla sails down the River Thames.

In celebration of Britain's long and colourful history at sea, a seven-mile long procession will feature Dunkirk little ships, historic vessels, steam boat, tugs and rowed shallops. The Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant will also boast Dutch barges and passenger ships.

Most stunning of all will be the royal barge. Decorated in a rich red and gold, the barge will carry a host of royals, including the Queen herself and the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are also expected to take their place aboard the barge, as are Prince Harry, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

Comprehensive boat insurance for the vessels involved in the flotilla will be vital.

Meanwhile on dry land, the Queen has given her official endorsement for a series of street parties to be held in celebration of her 60 years on the throne.
