Harris to have first lifeboat by May

The RNLI has revealed that Harris in the Western Isles
will get its first lifeboat this spring.
The Mersey-class vessel, to be based in Leverburgh from May 11,
has seen 21 volunteers come forward to be crew members for its
trial period.
The new lifeboat is good news for those local people who spend
plenty of time at sea, however they can find further peace of mind
by taking out boat insurance cover as well.
A permanent lifeboat station will be considered after the
assessment of the trial, which the RNLI says will last at least a
year and possibly three.
The previous new lifeboat station in Scotland was created on
Loch Ness in 2008, but a campaign by locals was begun for Harris to
have a boat and crew.
