Getting the right business insurance

Getting the right business insurance.
Small business protection….business
insurance
Business is risky. And with any risk it is always wise to ensure
you’ve taken every precaution to safeguard yourself and your
business.
It’s imperative that you get the right small business insurance
to protect your business, your assets and your staff. Mistakes can
be made and accidents happen – there is no getting away from that,
we are after all only human, but the repercussions of these events
can be financially crippling if you don’t have the right level of
small business insurance in place to
protect you.
Protecting your business
As a business it’s imperative that you have public liability insurance in place. As a
business you’re likely to come into contact with customers, clients
and suppliers. You may also work at; or visit and encounter their
property; and now that the UK has adopted the culture of suing, in
the event of an accident happening such as a client tripping and
falling in your reception - public liability insurance will cover
the legal fees should your client make a claim against you and pay
the compensation if your business is found at fault. It also
protects against damage to property so if as a builder your work
causes damage to the property or neighbouring property this will be
covered by your liability insurance policy.
Protecting your employees
It’s a compulsory requirement for any business with
more than one employee to have employers’ liability insurance as
you are legally responsible for the health and safety of your
employees whilst they are under your employment.
Having employers liability insurance will help enable you to
meet the cost of a compensation claim for injury or illness
suffered by your employee – whether their injury occurred on or off
site. It also covers you if a former employee makes a claim against
you for an injury, disease or illness occurring as a result of
working under your employment. Remember it can sometimes take years
for some work related illnesses to appear.
Protecting your premises.
Whether you rent or own your business premises, protecting those
premises should be one your primary concerns. Having a good office
insurance policy could protect and cover you against being unable
to do business due to an event that stops you from working at your
premises, having vital equipment stolen or destroyed. Having
business interruption cover has now become essential for most
businesses as it can cover the loss of income your business suffers
as a result of a disastrous event.
Protecting your professionalism.
We all see ourselves as professional. Yet no matter how
professional you are in business, mistakes can still occur. If your
business is to provides advice or a service to customers and for
any reasons your work or advice is negligent or you’ve made
mistakes and this causes the customer to suffer a negative impact
on their business or life, you can be liable – which is why it’s
imperative that you have professional liability insurance, which is
sometimes referred to as professional indemnity insurance, in
place.
