Cumbria expects caravan trips boost
Cumbria is preparing for a tourism boost this year as
more and more Britons opt to save money and embark on staycations
instead of going abroad.
Director of Cumbria Tourism Ian Stephens has predicted that
people heading out on caravan trips will boost the area, despite
other regions fearing the impact the London 2012 Olympics will have
on tourism outside the capital.
He explained that during 2011 the number of people going on
camping and caravan holidays remained steady, but he told the
Cumbria News & Star that he is expecting an increase in
staycations this year.
"[We anticipate] an upturn in occupancy levels across all
accommodation types with domestic visitors seeking an alternative
to London and the surrounding counties," he said.
"We are confident that tourism in the Lake District and Cumbria
will continue to grow steadily in 2012 and in the coming
years."
Although staycations can be attractive as a cheaper alternative
for many people, it is important that all essential costs are
covered, such as obtaining caravan insurance.
Mr Stephens said that the area's world-class arts and culture,
alongside its captivating countryside, will be a massive draw for
people looking to have a family break in Britain.
