18 Million 'Expected On The Road'

18 Million 'Expected On The Road'
The holiday season could see up to 18 million motorists,
including caravan drivers, head off on a
trip with family and friends around Christmas time, which could
require careful travel planning, according to the AA.
The AA expects that December 23 will be the busiest day on the
roads, and this makes it more important for travellers to keep some
safety preparations in place before a big excursion.
The AA has urged motorists to schedule
their travel a few days before if possible, advising that it is
important to check the condition of the vehicle and to store
warming emergency kits for any kind of mishap on the road.
The kits should contain things such as food and drink, a road
map, a mobile phone with full charge, winter wear, and a
blanket.
With weather patterns remaining severe and unpredictable, a
number of drivers could be forced to cancel their plans and head
elsewhere so that they do not have to travel through roads and
motorways.
According to Paul Leather, AA Breakdown patrol of the year, the
coming week is set to be more difficult for drivers, with Met
Office forecasters warning of continued chilling temperatures.
He said: "With a third of drivers looking to travel more than
100 miles, it really would pay for people to keep abreast of the
weather and travel reports, be flexible and adapt their travel
plans accordingly."
