Icy Chaos To Go On Until Boxing Day

Icy Chaos To Go On Until Boxing
Day
Britain is not likely to be free from
snow-induced travel miseries until Boxing Day, forecasters have
said.
Sub-zero temperatures are expected to last
for a few more days, making the country's frozen transport lines
more difficult to fix.
Holidaymakers are in for disappointment too
as Heathrow Airport is set for more cancellations and delays until
beyond Christmas Day, according to airports operator BAA. Planes in
Gatwick Airport have also been grounded.
Eurostar passengers at London's St Pancras
station have also been greeted with long queues, as bitter weather
left thousands stranded there for around eight hours on Monday.
In a bid to clear the passenger backlog,
transport secretary Philip Hammond relaxed night flight rules at
Heathrow on Monday, with arrivals allowed up to 1am until
Christmas.
And flights into London will be allowed to
operate 24 hours a day.
But despite the moves, the airport is
likely to operate at a reduced capacity until Friday, Mr Hammond
said.
