The Government is urged to reduce and stabilise the cost
of fuel
Campaigners are urging the Government to introduce new measures
to reduce and stabilise the cost of fuel.
Objecting against soaring petrol and diesel prices, the
protesters will lobby the Treasury and deliver a letter addressed
to Chancellor George Osborne.
The delegation from the FairFuelUK campaign will be led by TV
presenter and motoring expert Quentin Willson. All MPs in
Parliament will also receive letters on the issue.
The activists are calling on the Government to abandon the
proposed April fuel duty rise of 1p per litre.
Mr Osborne said he is considering the matter of the planned
increase in fuel cost.
He added: "The increasing cost of fuel is strangling the
economy, stoking up inflation and really hurting businesses and the
public.
"The Government need to act boldly and rule out that April
increase immediately to give people and businesses confidence."
The Road Haulage Association (RHA), the Freight Transport
Association (FTA), The Fuel Card Company and the RAC are among
those who have extended their support to the FairFuelUK
campaign.
At the Treasury, the delegation will unfurl a banner showing a
picture of a fuel tanker set out as a graphic indicating just how
much of the price of petrol and diesel is made up of Government
fuel duty.
