Spanish driving tips for caravan
owners
Specialist caravan insurance provider
Towergate Bakers has come up with a series of tips for caravan
owners planning on a trip to Spain to join in the celebrations over
the World Cup.
The most important difference between Spain and the UK is that
continental Europeans of course drive on the right. But there are a
number of other differences in the rules.
For a start, drink driving limits are less than in the UK.
Drivers must have no more than 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood,
compared to 80mg in the UK. New drivers are permitted only 20mg.
These laws are strictly enforced and, says Towergate Bakers, it's best not to consume any
alcohol at all before driving.
There is also a list of safety equipment that must be taken on
every journey. It includes: two warning triangles, headlight
converters, spare bulbs, a spare pair of prescription glasses, a
spare wheel, a reflective vest, headlamp converters and GB stickers
if there are no symbols on the number plates. It is recommended
that drivers also carry a first aid kit, fire extinguisher and
torch.
Speed limits for towing vehicles are 50kph in urban areas,
70-80kph on the open road and 80kph on motorways. If you get caught
speeding, you will be expected to pay in cash immediately - if you
don't have enough money, you'll be taken to a cash machine!
