Aviva has released statistics showing that a worrying amount of SMEs either do not have the proper insurance or are unsure of the cover they require. The number of SMEs without insurance has risen from 8% in June to 20% in December 2011. The same survey also discovered that 29% were not confident they had sufficient cover.*

Tough economic times mean that SMEs are making a huge effort to be streamlined and cost efficient. Aviva stresses the importance of having proper insurance cover particularly when cover such as employer’s liability insurance is a legal requirement.

Towergate Insurance’ Managing Director (SME Division), Amanda Walton commented "Whilst making savings in this tough economic climate is a business essential. Ensuring that good value for money business insurance is arranged is of paramount importance. Business owners must not be tempted to cut corners, potentially leaving themselves exposed to significant sums, having underestimated the financial and social implications."
