Flood loading reduced for residents in West Sussex and
Warwickshire parks
Park home
insurance provider, Towergate Insurance, has recently reduced
the flood loadings for residents at Thornlea Park in West Sussex,
and Oversley Mill Park, Warwickshire, lowering their premiums by
nearly 20%.
Thornlea Park residents contacted Towergate after Flood Data
Services Ltd was commissioned to provide a detailed flood risk
report. The firm concluded the risk of flood damage to homes on the
park was very low and at worst would affect no more than five
homes.
This was in part due to the fact the homes on the park, as is
common practice, are raised about 600mm above ground or slab level,
plus existing flood defences along the River Arun have been
particularly effective.
At Oversley Mill Park, significant flood prevention works have
been carried out in recent years and there are no incidents of
flood damage to park homes in living memory (even in 1998 and 2007
when serious flooding occurred along the River Avon).
Residents insured with Towergate contacted Park Home Account
Director, Paul Baker, and following further investigations, their
premium loading was reduced.
Commenting on the decision Paul said: “We try to be as fair as
we possibly can with our premium ratings to ensure they properly
reflect the level of risk. In these two instances we were able to
fully investigate local conditions and as a result, reduce the
premium. Both parks are however in a flood plain and whilst the
risk is very low, a small flood loading continues to apply to
reflect this.”
