Cat Insurance FAQs

How much can Healthy Pets pay out for veterinary treatment as part of my cat insurance policy?

Healthy Pets' Lifetime cat insurance policies can pay out either £2,000 or £4,250 in total in each period of insurance, depending on the cover level selected. Both Lifetime policy levels limit cover for each injury or illness to £1,000 in each period of insurance. There is no limit to the number of conditions you can claim for during the lifetime of your cat insurance policy.

Healthy Pets' Maximum Benefit cat insurance policies offer up to £1,000, £4,250 or £7,500 for each condition, depending on which cover you selected. You can claim for an unlimited number of conditions during the policy, and there is no time limit. However, cover for your cat’s condition will stop once the Maximum Benefit for it is reached.

Healthy Pets' Accident Only cat insurance can provide up to £1,000 per accident over a 12-month period, as long as you renew your policy and premiums are kept up to date. Cover ceases once you have spent £1,000 or 12 months after treatment has started, whichever is reached first. There is no limit to the amount of accidents you can claim for during the lifetime of your pet insurance policy.

Do you offer cover throughout my cat’s life?

Healthy Pets' Maximum Benefit policies cover your cat's whole life, up to the maximum benefit for each separate injury or illness, regardless of the time taken to reach the policy limit.

Healthy Pets' Lifetime Reinstatement policies cover your cat’s whole life, up to the financial limit. If the limit is reached during the insurance year, the cover stops until the policy is renewed. At renewal the limit is fully reinstated and the condition will continue to be covered in the policy the following year.

In both cases you must continue to renew your cat insurance with Healthy Pets and keep your premiums up to date.

How do Healthy Pets provide cover for my cat in old age?

Healthy Pets plan for your cat's future, by covering vet fees throughout its life and that of the policy.

Does my cat insurance cover ongoing illnesses or injuries?

Yes, Healthy Pets' Bronze, Silver and Gold Maximum Benefit policies cover you for eligible ongoing conditions that first occurred since your policy began, up to the maximum amount in your chosen level.

Healthy Pets' Accident Only cat insurance offers £1,000 per accident for treatment, for a period of up to 12 months from the first treatment after your cat is injured.

Healthy Pets' Lifetime Reinstatement pet insurance policies will cover your pet for eligible ongoing illnesses or injuries up to the annual limit. At renewal the limit is fully reinstated and the condition will continue to be covered.

In all cases this is subject to you renewing your policy with us and premium payments being kept up to date.

What is excluded from my cat insurance policy?

Unfortunately, Healthy Pets cannot cover illnesses or injuries which your cat has suffered symptoms of, or received treatment, medication or advice for, before your cat insurance came into force. However, any pre-existing conditions will not affect your premium.

Does Healthy Pets cover alternative medicine treatment?

Yes, if the alternative remedies are a feasible option recommended by your vet to help your cat’s health, then Healthy Pets will cover the cost, up to the complementary medicine limit of your chosen cover level.

What excess do I have to pay on my cat insurance?
  • Cats and kittens less than five-years-old pay a fixed excess: £99.

  • Cats between five and six years pay a fixed excess of £99 as well as a 15% co-insurance fee.

  • Cats aged six years or above pay a fixed excess of £100 excess plus a 20% co-insurance fee.

Co-insurance is a common feature in pet insurance, designed to lower the cost of premiums for aging pets. You pay this as a contribution towards any amount claimed that is above the fixed excess.

  • For all cat insurance claims, you pay the excess for each illness or injury in each policy year. If one of your cats receives treatment for the same injury or illness in separate policy years, Healthy Pets will deduct the fixed excess from the first claim(s) for each condition in each policy year.

Does my cat need to be microchipped to be eligible for this insurance policy?

No, it is not mandatory to microchip your cat in order to be eligible for this cover.

Are there any cat breeds you cannot insure?

Healthy Pets do not provide cat insurance for any breed that is not listed on the breed selection options when quoting. These include, but are not limited to, Savannah cats, or if your pet is crossed with a Savannah-breed cat.

When will Healthy Pets not offer cat insurance?

If your cat would be over eight years of age at the outset of the policy, Healthy Pets are unable to offer cover.
