Q&A with Beach Hut of the Year Judge, Anna Davies

Anna Davies' hut, My Happy Hut, won Towergate's Beach Hut of the Year 2016 competition. We caught up with her about why she loves the competition and what her must-have items are for a day at the beach hut.

What do you love most about Beach Hut of the Year?

Towergate's Beach Hut of the Year competition is such good fun. It's a big competition with lots of entries which makes it more exciting each time you get through to the next round, just good fun all round plus... Phil Spencer, need I say more! I love how you can go totally batty with the design and people don't think you've gone mad. In fact, the more outrageous and silly the better as far as I'm concerned; it's a little home from home, your own little place that reflects who you really are, where you can relax and just be yourself.

Five must-haves for a day at the beach hut:

  1. Sachets of milk like you get in cafes. That way you can pop down totally on a whim without having to think ahead and buy milk, and have a nice cuppa whenever you want.

  2. A good book or magazine. I keep a box of soothing magazines about mindfulness and relaxation in my hut, something to gently soothe frazzled minds.

  3. Blankets. It's amazing how quickly it gets chilly once the sun goes in or down.

  4. Binoculars for watching all the interesting boats, windsurfers and the occasional seal or porpoise.

  5. Battery powered string lights for cosy evenings after sunset.
