Preparations for Beach Hut of the Year (BHOTY) are well under way here at Towergate. But are you beach hut ready? It's time to get excited, get creative and we've put together some top tips to help you get there!

There are around 20,000 beach huts in the UK, and their popularity is only increasing. It's no wonder - beach huts are some of the most beautiful man-made features on our British coastlines. Steeped in heritage, family history and seaside tradition, they are here to stay and we think that's something to be celebrated.

In this article, you’ll find all you need to know about getting your beach hut beach ready for this summer’s competition is open now! With sunnier days on the way, it's time to get out and enjoy the seaside again and it's the perfect time to start prepping your beach hut for Beach Hut of the Year.

What may the judges be looking for in the ideal beach hut?

While some might be blown away by a hut’s history, others might find that your decorative theme gives you the edge! But one thing's for sure: our judges have a tough time choosing finalists given that there are so many beautiful beach huts out there. It’s not all about appearances though; there are many different things the judges might look for when considering your beach hut.

Things to consider when telling us about your hut are:

Aesthetics - Creative flare inside and out. Does your hut have a particular theme? Tell us!

Functionality - Think ‘Amazing Spaces’ and the different things you use your hut for.

History - The story of you and your hut. Whatever it is, we'd love to hear it!

Community - Is your hut involved in the local community at all?

Photographing Your Beach Hut

This is a key part of your entry! Ever bought or rented a place to live? Chances are you got a good idea of whether you liked it from the photos. Imagine you were judging your beach hut by a few photos - which features would impress you the most? Be sure to include these features in your photos.

We recommend submitting at least two photos: one of the exterior of your beach hut and one of the interior. Scroll down to the bottom of this article to take a look at last year's finalists. This should give you a good idea of what makes a good beach hut competition entry photo. If you're still stumped, here are eight tips for taking interior shots like a pro.

A note on photo quality: Our Top Ten huts last year were unveiled in the Sunday Times. Please send us your best quality photographs as low quality images will be difficult to judge and unsuitable for publishing elsewhere.
