Features of Static Caravan Insurance

Standard cover

Storm and flood damage cover as standard

One of our most common causes for claims is storm and flood damage. This is why we include it as standard on our policies. Excludes loss or damage to hedges, gates or fences.

Theft or attempted theft of your static caravan

We've included theft and attempted theft through violent or forcible entry as standard on our static caravan insurance and leisure home insurance, so you can rest assured that you are insured against damage or loss caused as a result. Restrictions apply - please see our policy wording for full details.

Frost damage to plumbing

As long as the necessary precautions (found in our policy wording) have been taken, we will cover for frost damage to your interior boiler and fixed domestic water and heating installations under 10 years old.

Accidental damage cover for static caravans

We include accidental damage cover as standard on our policy.

Additional cover

Hiring out your static caravan

Should you want to hire out your static caravan when you are not using it, you have the option to add this cover to your policy.

Homecare emergency

You can choose to include homecare emergency as an additional product with your policy. It provides a 24-hour helpline and assistance, including emergency repair services.

Key protection

We can offer you cover for your keys if they are lost, damaged by accidental means or stolen. As well as replacement insured keys, it will also cover you for locksmith charges and new locks if a security risk has arisen.

Static Caravan Insurance FAQs

Question

How much is static caravan insurance or leisure home insurance?

Answer

Your static caravan insurance or leisure home insurance policy will be individual to you and the premium will depend on a number of factors including, the level of cover you choose, the age and size of your property, the property and content values you need to insure and your claims history. It is therefore difficult to give an estimate on the cost of cover.

Question

What is new for old insurance?

Answer

Insuring a leisure home on a new for old basis ensures you will receive a brand new, equivalent model if an insured peril causes damage beyond repair. It is important that in this case, the sums insured reflect the cost of buying a brand new equivalent caravan. Towergate can insure static caravans up to 20 years old on a new for old basis.

Question

How does static caravan insurance work?

Answer

Static caravan insurance or leisure home insurance can protect you in three main ways:

  1. Public liability, often required by holiday parks
  2. Damage caused by various risks such as storm, fire, malicious and accidental damage, depending on the level cover you choose
  3. Additional and extended covers such as hiring out cover for when the property is let or lent, homecare emergency, key protection, excess protection and legal protection.

Question

Can I get leisure home or static caravan contents insurance?

Answer

We allow you to specify the contents amount you want to insure. Make sure you consider what contents you have, to assess the value you will need insured. You may also choose to insure your contents on a new for old or a market value basis. If you choose new for old cover for the property's contents you should consider how much it will cost to replace your items as new.

Question

Where can I find full details of my policy?

Answer

We have provided a summary of the key features of the policy, above. For details of the terms and conditions applicable, please refer to the insurance product information document and policy wording, which are available during the quotation process.

Question

Do I have access to an online portal?

Answer

If you purchased your static caravan policy after August 2019, you will be able to access our online portal. Please login or call us to set yourself up on 01242 894 174.

On your portal you will be able to view documents, adjust and pay for your renewal, request for one of our advisors to contact you or submit a claim. Unfortunately, our portal service currently doesn’t allow you to make mid-term adjustments or cancel your policy but we can complete these actions over the phone.

Question

How do I access static caravan insurance products as a broker?

Answer

If you have already registered, please log in to our portal for caravan insurance brokers. If you have registered, please contact us on 01242 894 150.

Question

Do I need static caravan insurance and what does it cover me for?

Answer

Whilst static caravan insurance is not a legal requirement it is important to protect yourself from the risk that can come with owning a leisure home. Your site may also require you to have at least a basic level of liability insurance or require proof of insurance.

We offer new for old or market value cover on the home, its contents, additional structures or personal possessions.

Question

Can you cover site fees because I haven’t been able to stay in my caravan?

Answer

No, this is not covered by your insurance policy.

Question

Can I get cover for when I hire out my static caravan?

Answer

If you currently do not hold a policy with us, our new Leisure Home policy offers extended cover for when you hire out your caravan. The extended hiring out cover protects you in the event of loss or damage caused by malicious persons or vandals, theft or attempted theft and accidental damage whilst let or lent.

Your standard policy will only provide cover for loss or damage when you are staying at the caravan. With extended hiring out cover, your guests can stay a maximum of four consecutive weeks, up to 20 weeks per year.

When letting or lending the property you are required to carry out an inspection within 72 hours after your guests depart. The unoccupied element of your cover will remain unchanged therefore you will need to ask your guests or arrange to have the water, gas and electric turned off at the mains.

However, not all our policies offer this extension, so if you already have a policy with us please speak to one of our advisors to establish whether we can offer you hiring out cover on 01242 894 174.

Question

Answer

Yes – to cancel your caravan policy there is a £30 cancellation charge.

Question

Are there any other charges to consider when cancelling my policy, other than the £30 cancellation fee?

Answer

If you choose to cancel your policy within the first 14 days, you will not be charged and a full refund will be provided, including any additional products you may have selected, as long as no claims have been made. The 14 days begin from the date your policy starts or the date you receive your documents, whichever is the latter.

If you decide to cancel your policy after the first 14 days, you will be charged, by the insurer, for the time you have been on cover and a £30 cancellation fee and our commission will be retained on a pro rata basis. Also, our customer service charge and any additional products are completely non-refundable. However, if a claim has been made, the full premium will be charged.

Our optional additional products include: excess protection, Homecare Emergency, legal protection and key protection. Please check your documentation to confirm if you have included these products in your policy
