Staying Safe in the Sun

Warm weather can create a problem for businesses with staff or dependents working or spending time in the heat. Our article looks at precautions and pro-active steps you can take as a business to protect your employees in summer heat.

To make sure you, your employees and those you care for are all safe during the summer months we suggest you have a read of our tips.

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day and ensure all people under your care, including staff are kept well hydrated.

  • Keep your premises well ventilated. Open windows on milder days and turn on air conditioning on particularly hot days, this will ensure everyone is kept cool.

  • Make sure to dress in loose fitting clothes that will keep you cool throughout the day.

  • Ensure you, your staff and those you care for are wearing sunscreen when outside and always try to sit in a shaded area, especially during the hours of 11am and 3pm.

  • Identify high risk people and ensure that they are checked on regularly throughout the day and night.

  • Look out for any signs of heat exhaustion which can include fatigue, weakness, nausea and confusion.
