FAQ
How often can I drive in the ‘red hours’?
There is no limit to the number of times you can drive during
the ‘red hours’. However, each night you drive between 11pm-5am you
will be charged £100. Of course, if you don’t drive your car at
night you will not be charged this excess and all you will pay is
your agreed monthly or annual premium.
i-kube Young Drivers insurance has been designed to help you
save money. So, if you think that you will be driving your car
during the ‘red hours’ a lot, then you might want to contact the
Towergate Insurance team and look at alternative motor insurance
options.
How much information is stored by i-kube? And will they pass
this onto any third parties?
The i-kube box is only there so they can see if your car is
driven between 11pm-5am. Unless required for the prevention or
detection of crime, or under very special circumstances, they will
not use it for any other reason.
What if my car is blocking someone’s driveway at night? Will I
still be charged?
No. i-kube understand this. As long as your car does not move
more than 100 metres then you will not be charged.
What if I don’t have the Pass Plus qualification?
You don't have to have the Pass Plus qualification to benefit
from i-kube Young Drivers insurance. However, with the Pass Plus
you could reduce your Young Drivers insurance premium even further.
i-kube will give you 30 days from when you start the policy for you
to take the Pass Plus test.
Take a look at www.passplus.org.uk where you can find out more
about the scheme and which councils are offering a discount on the
test.
Do I still earn a No Claim Bonus with your Young Drivers
insurance?
Yes, you do. Just like any other motor insurance policy, i-kube
Young Drivers insurance allows you to build up No Claims Bonus. If
after a full 12 months of having your policy with i-kube you’ve
made no claims, you will earn one year No Claims Bonus. This can be
transferred to your next policy at renewal.
Am I able to alter the ‘red hours’?
Sorry, no. Road Safety statistics prove that young drivers are
more likely to be involved in road accidents between 11pm-5am.
Which is why these are the set hours in this policy.
Does my vehicle have to be parked at my home address at
night?
No, it doesn’t. Your vehicle can be parked anywhere in the UK
during 11pm-5am.
What type of modifications are allowed?
i-kube will allow minor changes to your vehicle, such as alloy
wheels (as long as they are no more than 1 inch bigger than the
original wheel). But anything that is deemed performance enhancing
is not covered. For instance, i-kube would not allow a change in
suspension.
Can I drive other cars and still be covered?
Sorry, no. i-kube Young Drivers insurance is based on you
driving only the car listed on the policy and fitted with the
i-kube device.
Can I get insurance with i-kube if I don’t own the car?
No. i-kube Young Drivers insurance is designed to help you get
great discounts and earn no claims bonuses on your own car.
Therefore, you (i.e. the insured driver) must be the registered
owner and keeper of the insured vehicle.
Can I insure my car in my parent's name?
No. This is known as "insurance fronting” and is illegal. If the
vehicle is solely or predominantly used by the young driver, the
policy must be insured in the main driver’s name. If i-kube find
out they may cancel your policy or worse still, in the event of an
accident, refuse to pay out.
You can add a parent onto your policy as a named driver. This
normally gives you a small premium discount of approximately
£20.
I have earned a No Claims Bonus on my Motorbike insurance. Can
I transfer this across to my car policy with i-kube?
Unfortunately not. Like most car insurance policies, i-kube
don’t accept no claims discount earnt on motorbikes.
Can I add my girlfriend/boyfriend?
Other drivers under 25 can be added as a named driver. However,
they must be a spouse, common-law spouse or brother/sister. All
named drivers must fit the i-kube Young Drivers insurance criteria
and be legally fit to drive.
I’ve been a named driver whilst learning to drive on my
sister’s car insurance. Now I’ve passed my test I’d like my own
policy. Can i-kube insure me to drive her car?
To be eligible for i-kube Young Drivers Insurance, the policy
holder needs to be the owner of the vehicle and the main driver. If
your sister is under 25 she could take out i-kube Young Drivers
insurance and add you as a named driver. But you would not be able
to earn your own No Claims Bonus –you would need your own policy
for that.
Can my parents use the car that has been fitted with the
i-kube?
Your parents can use the car provided they have "driving any
other vehicles extension” on their own insurance. Alternatively
they will need to be added to your insurance as named drivers.
However, no matter who is driving, if the car is driven between the
hours of 11pm-5am the £100 charge will apply.
Can I have a non-UK driving licence?
Both full UK and European driving licences are accepted but
international licences are not accepted.
I haven’t passed my test yet. Can I still get insurance with
just a provisional licence?
Yes. i-kube Young Drivers insurance offers cover for both
provisional and full-licence holders under 25.
