Picture this: You need to get to an equestrian event, but you’ve just submitted a claim for your trailer, and it can’t be fixed in time. With our horse trailer insurance, once your claim has been accepted and processed by the insurer, you can hire a temporary trailer, costing up to 10% of your trailer (sum insured). This means that you can still go to your event and not lose out on any prepaid entry fees.
Theft cover is included but security requirements, such as a wheel clamp, may be required, depending on the locations and value of your trailer. We also like to encourage safe storage - particularly if your trailer is worth more than £10,000. We can provide discounts on your horse trailer insurance if you store it on your driveway or in a garage. Other savings are available for different storage arrangements. Please note that theft cover does not include the contents of the trailer.
Our aim is to get your trailer repaired and safely back on the road - but first, we have to get it to the repairers. Pick up or recovery of your trailer may be expensive, but with our horse trailer insurance policy, you may be able to claim that money back (subject to the insurer's terms and conditions). We'll also let you choose your repairer - so if you’ve got someone in mind, just let us know. Please note that this may be from a list of pre-approved repairers.
If your trailer is under two years old, you will receive payment for the price 'as new' if it is written off, as long as it insured for the full current market price. If it is older than two years, payment will be on a 'market value' basis.
When you need to make a claim, we’ll guide you through the process and get your claim settled as quickly as possible.

Liability insurance is there in case you damage someone else’s property while the trailer is not attached to your vehicle. For example, you may accidentally open the jockey door onto someone’s car bonnet, or your horse trailer might roll away and injure someone. When your trailer is attached to your vehicle it is likely you will be covered by your car insurance. If in any doubt, please check with your motor insurer.
If your horse trailer is worth over £10,000, we’ll give you a discount when you store it at home, i.e. on your driveway or in a garage. Savings can be made with other storage arrangements – please ask your adviser for more details.
As long as your friend has the correct licence to tow, you can lend it to them. However, you can’t hire it out to them for financial gain.
No. You must own the trailer, in order to insure it.
Depending on the insurer, as well as the location and value of your horse trailer, a hitch lock, wheel clamp, or both, may be required.
We can insure many types of trailer. As long as it’s not homemade, there is a high chance that we can insure it. We offer cover for Ifor Williams trailers, Equi-trek and other factory-made trailers.
Depending on whether there is somebody living on site and the proximity of the trailer to the property, you may be able to store it on a field. However, we most certainly do not recommend it.
