Our team is dedicated to keeping your trailer claim moving forward.
Should your trailer be out of use due to a claim, our policy will cover you to hire a replacement trailer. Please note that you must first submit your claim and have it accepted. Once your claim has been accepted and processed by the insurer, you can hire a temporary trailer, costing up to 10% of your trailer (sum insured).
‘New for old’ cover affords you compensation to replace your trailer with the same version or equivalent new version of your trailer, should it need to be replaced. Please note that if your trailer is under two years old, the policy will pay out the price 'as new' if it is written off. If it is older than two years, your payout will be calculated on a 'market value' basis. This means that it will be based on the value of your trailer at the time of your claim.
Theft cover is included as long as your trailer is fitted with a wheel clamp when it's not in use. Failure to do this could result in a theft claim not being paid. We also like to encourage safe storage - particularly if your trailer is worth more than £10,000. We can provide discounts on your horse trailer insurance if you store it on your driveway or in a garage. Other savings are available for different storage arrangements. Please note that theft cover does not include the contents of the trailer.
Our aim is to get your repaired trailer safely back on the road - but first, we have to get it to a location where it can be repaired. With our policy, you may be able to claim back the cost of pick up or recovery (subject to the insurer's terms and conditions). We'll also let you choose your repairer - so if you’ve got someone in mind, just let us know. https://www.towergateinsurance.co.uk/horsebox-breakdown-cover
When you need to make a claim, we'll guide you through the process and get your claim settled as quickly as possible.
Your trailer insurance will be valid when lending your trailer to family and friends, as long as they have the correct license to tow. However, your trailer insurance policy would be invalidated if you were to hire out your trailer for financial gain.
No, you cannot take out trailer insurance if you are not the owner of the trailer.
Trailer insurance covers a wide range of trailer types, including but not limited to: catering trailers, horsebox trailers, race transporter trailers, utility trailers, commercial trailers, box trailers, boat trailers and garden trailers. If your trailer is not included in this list, this does not mean that we can't cover it. Speak to an adviser to find out more.
If your trailer is worth over £10,000, we’ll offer you a discount on your trailer insurance if you store it at home, for example, on your driveway or in a garage. Savings can be made with other storage arrangements – please ask your adviser for more details.
Trailer insurance will not cover for liabilities caused by the trailer becoming detached from the towing vehicle as this is covered under the liability be covered under your towing vehicle insurance.
In order for your cover to be valid, the policy may require a wheel clamp to be secured to your trailer when it’s not in use. Wheel locks do not offer the same level of security, so these are not always acceptable alternatives. We also advise using a hitch lock, but this is not essential.
If you need to make a claim on your trailer insurance, standard excess is £50 for accidental damage and £100 for theft. However, these fees may change depending on your requirements. Your excesses will be explained to you at the point of quotation, so if you have any questions please do ask.
Please also ensure that you read your policy summary and schedule to make sure you understand how much you may have to pay in the event of a claim.
We have provided a summary of the key features of the policy, above. For details of the terms and conditions applicable, please refer to your insurance product information document and policy wording, which are available during the quotation process.
