Features of Tree Surgeon Insurance

Standard cover

Liability insurance for tree surgeons

As a tree surgeon, you’re likely to be working in public places. With this in mind, we can offer liability packages which cover you for claims made against you by members of the public, clients and even by your employees for injury or damage, should you be at fault. If you’re unsure as to what is meant by ‘liability’, read our guide to liability.

Tree surgery equipment insurance

Our business insurance covers a multitude of professions and many of those professions require cover for specialist tools and equipment which is owned as well as hired-in. Our tree surgeon insurance is no exception – we can arrange cover for your gear including things like wood-chippers, chainsaws tree cutting and climbing equipment. Just make sure you take all your kit into consideration when informing us of your total sums insured. If you’re unsure about anything, don’t hesitate to ask.

Variable limits for tree surgeon cover

We can provide tailored height limits within your policy according to your needs. Talk to our team for more.

Cover for related trades

Let us know if you work in other trades, for example landscaping or gardening, and we'll also cover you for these under the same policy.

Tree Surgeon Insurance FAQs

Question

What is the difference between employers’, public and professional liability and do I need all of them?

Answer

Which liability cover you need depends very much on the specifics of your business.

Employers’ liability insurance is necessary and a legal requirement if you employ even one other member of staff as part of your business – so if you don’t have any employees, you don’t need to worry about this one. Public liability insurance for tree surgeons protects you against accidents that may happen, implicating a client or member of the public. This includes accidents ranging from something as small as a spilt drink over a piece of equipment, to serious bodily injury. Professional liability insurance  protects you if you are accused of professional negligence and can include things such as incorrect advice or recommendations, breach of professional code of conduct, loss of documents or a breach of confidentiality.

Question

What other covers should I have as a tree surgeon?

Answer

If you provide tree management advice to your clients for a fee, you may need professional indemnity insurance. Cover is available for a variety of limits. Working with powerful equipment may result in serious injury. You may even be unable to work for long periods of time resulting in a loss of earnings. You may therefore wish to take out personal accident cover.

Question

How high can I work and still be covered by my tree surgeon insurance?

Answer

It’s important that you explain full details of the activities involved including the maximum heights above ground that you work. Please call us first to tailor your policy.

Question

Is my equipment covered whilst it’s in transit?

Answer

Loss or damage to your equipment can be insured under a Tools and Equipment policy. This will include cover if it gets damaged as a result of a motor accident. Cover for this depends on a number of factors, including whether your vehicle is insured for commercial use, whether you’ve locked your van securely when you’re not in it, and where you keep your van at night.

If you’re unsure of the conditions of your cover, get in touch with one of our customer service advisors.

Question

Do I need to tell you if I buy more equipment?

Answer

Yes, if you are insuring equipment as part of your policy, in order to be covered you need to ensure that you are insuring for the new replacement values of all the equipment you own.

Question

Can I be covered for other trades?

Answer

If you would like other trades to be included in your policy, please specify these trades when you speak to an agent or call us to update your policy if you’re already a policy holder.
