Carpenters Insurance FAQs

Question

What is carpenters' insurance?

Answer

Carpenters insurance is a group of different types of insurance that are specific to your profession as a carpenter. It can then be tailored to your needs with the right combinations and levels of protection.
It can cover you for most types of carpentry work including:

  • Cabinet making and joinery
  • Surveying or quoting
  • Large public contracts and private jobs

Question

Do you offer tools insurance for carpenters?

Answer

Your business equipment is usually vital to a carpenter and therefore you can choose to insure against theft. Even if you hire the equipment, you may still want insurance, especially for the more expensive items.
We can include your specialist woodworking equipment and even employee’s tools as long as they are locked secure, even in your van or onsite.

Note that fixed equipment may not be covered as this would be expected to be covered on the insurance for your premises. If you have a workshop, we can combine your carpentry insurance with a business premises policy.

Question

In the event of a claim, how are my tools replaced?

Answer

Cover is arranged on a new for old basis and therefore it’s important that you value your work tools and equipment based on their replacement value at today’s prices. If you underestimate the value of your tools this could result  in your claim being proportionately reduced due to underinsurance.

Question

Why do I need a specific carpenter insurance policy?

Answer

It's important to declare all the types of machinery that you use, particularly fixed as woodworking machines in view of the higher injury risks presented. By protecting your company with an industry-specific policy you have peace of mind that your business activities are fully understood.

Question

Why does a carpenter need public liability insurance?

Answer

Carpenters can face legal action in respect of their liability for personal injury or property damage arising from their activities, we can provide protection for a range of different liability claims to help keep you protected.

Question

Is the financial rating of an insurer an important factor?

Answer

Yes, because the system measures an insurer’s financial situation, allowing you to predict their ability to meet ongoing policy obligations.

Also, there are a number of main contractors that will not sub-contract works to any companies not insured with an insurer with a minimum of an A-financial rating (as determined by established ratings companies).

Question

What is public liability insurance for carpenters?

Answer

Public liability insurance protects the public against injury or loss as a result of your business. So, for example, if someone is injured by a falling ladder. Level of cover can vary but most options are between one and 10 million pounds dependent on your needs.

Question

What is employers' liability insurance for carpenters?

Answer

If you have employees, you have a legal duty of care to have protection for their benefit in place. Employers’ liability insurance for a carpenter is just this and protects your staff against similar perils to public liability.

Question

Are labour-only sub-contractors covered in the same way that direct PAYE staff are under the employers' liability policy?
