Features of Gym Insurance

Standard cover

Cover for both new and established gyms

Experience tells us that long-standing businesses are lower risk. However, no matter how long you’ve been trading, we can offer advice to help you get the right cover and reduce your risks. For example, did you know you’ll need to have your lifting equipment inspected periodically to meet health and safety regulations? We can help you arrange this inspection service. Naturally, all premiums and rates are dependent on risk and business factors.

Gym equipment and stock insurance

We know that the modern gym isn’t just a few dumbbells and machines. Modern equipment often links to computers and office equipment, with sound and audio-visual equipment to create the right mood and fitness environment. We can cover stock (e.g. protein shakes and supplements) as well as kitchen and health care equipment. The good news is, provided you tell us about everything you’d like covered, we can cover a huge range of contents under this package policy.

Build your policy around your business

We build in a degree of flexibility so that you can get the right cover levels for you from the outset. If for example you start offering new treatments or activities, you will need to update us. However, if you’re taking on more staff or your turnover has increased, we will review this at renewal and update your policy then. We can tailor cover to include activities away from your gym provided you give us full details when you set up your policy and cover is agreed. When insuring your buildings and contents, this must be based on the current replacement values as new, to avoid 'under-insurance' in the event of a claim.

Employers' liability insurance for both full and part time staff

As a gym owner you will quite likely employ a mix of full and part time/temporary staff to run your classes and training sessions. If this is the case, you can rest assured that your staff, as an employer will be covered under the employers' liability section of cover. The standard limit for employers' liability is £10m and meets your legal responsibilities.

Gym Insurance FAQs

Question

Can I be covered for water-based activities and gym equipment?

Answer

Yes. We can cover you if you have a pool, a hot tub, jacuzzi, run aqua aerobic classes and more. Please advise us of the type of facilities, classes and activities you offer.

Question

I also have spa equipment on my premises - can I be covered for these too?

Answer

Yes. We can extend cover to included saunas and steam rooms where you'll need public liability cover to protect you against potential claims from your members. Cover limits start at £1 and popular levels rising to £10 million, with higher options available. Tell what you need.

Question

Can I get cover if I offer additional treatments and therapies like sports massage?

Answer

Yes, we can extend your cover to include these activities. Please ensure you provide full details of the treatments, products and services you provide to our adviser, so that we can tailor appropriate cover for your business.

Question

Does it matter who damages my gym equipment/buildings (e.g. my staff, clients, third-party personal trainers)?

Answer

Our cover protects you for accidental damage caused by a variety of visitors who use your premises. Let us know if you can think if there is anything out of the ordinary who might cause damage and we’ll do our best to cover you. Unfortunately, insurance policies won’t include cover for general wear and tear.

Question

Is the financial rating of an insurer an important factor?

Answer

It is an important factor and we use insurers with A-ratings as determined by companies such as Standard & Poor's, A M Best, Moody's or Fitch Ratings. This is a globally recognised measure of an insurer's financial situation and provides confidence on their ability and allows you to predict their ability to meet on-going policy obligations.

If you have any concerns about whether this may affect your business or have any questions around the rating of an insurer speak with one of our advisers.

Question

Can I pay in instalments?

Answer

To help you spread the cost of your premiums, we offer a quick and easy direct debit scheme for spreading payment over ten months. Please visit our dedicated Direct Debit page to find out more.

Question

Where can I find more information about monthly Direct Debit?

Answer

If you would like to know more about our monthly payment option, please visit our dedicated Direct Debit page.
