Worldwide cover for your kit

Known as our Right Dress Basic policy, cover is for your personal possessions and contents worldwide even whilst you're on deployment.

Damage to service accommodation

Also referred to as ‘License to Occupy’, covers you for any damage caused whilst living in any MOD based accommodation up to the value of £20,000. Just be aware this won't include damage which you cause deliberately.

New for old cover

On everything except civilian clothing and bed linen where a deduction for wear and tear will be made. We will always try to replace your goods with the same item or the closest equivalent model.

Flexible claims process

We accept as part of your job role it’s not always possible to report incidents of loss immediately, especially whilst on deployment. We're therefore more flexible with our claims process for military personnel. You can report your losses to us up to 180 days from becoming aware of the loss. Still let us know as soon as you can, the quicker we know the quicker we can resolve the claim for you.

In line with our service pledge, we will act within 24 hours of being notified of your claim and within five days if you provide us with new information on an existing claim, to ensure that your claim is settled as quickly as possible.

Are my goods covered in transit?

We understand as part of military life you’re often on the move which can mean experiencing loss or damage of goods whilst travelling from one place to the next. As such, all of our policies provide cover for your goods to the value of the contents sums insured whilst they are in transit as long as it is a result of any MOD posting.

Is accidental damage included?

Yes, if items you own or are responsible for are accidentally lost or damaged they are covered. Please note that general wear and tear and mechanical breakdown are not covered.

If I have to claim what amount will normally be deducted from my claim (the excess)?

The standard excess is only £50. The laptop excess is £125.

Does the excess increase if the claim is as a result of transit damage or because items were stolen from my car?

No but if you leave items unattended in your car they must be locked out of sight in the boot or locked in a glove compartment. Leaving items on display or hidden under a coat on the back seat will only attract the attention of thieves.

I have a household insurance with another company. Can I just insure the items I take on an unaccompanied posting?

Our policy is designed specifically for the insurance needs of members of HM Forces, we have over 60 years' experience in providing specialist advice to our military customers. Under the terms of our policy we would not need to know about an unaccompanied posting.

What happens if I want to claim?

Most of the time is us you'll speak to but sometimes we feel that the appointment of a loss adjuster will help you to present your claim and speed its progress. Our claims staff understand the needs and the lifestyle of HM Forces thus avoiding the need for you to explain how your job can have an impact on claims reporting and responses to letters.
