Surgery Insurance Features

All risks cover for loss or damage to contents

Covering losses caused by incidents including fire, theft, vandalism, flood and water damage. Refrigerated drugs and vaccines - up to £30,000 at any one location and £5,000 per fridge.

Theft cover

Should your surgery be burgled, our theft cover will reimburse you for the financial cost of getting your business back on its feet - whether or not a forced entry was made to the premises.

Business interruption

Covering the loss of income should an incident occur that prevents the normal running of your business. £4 million business interruption cover as standard over a 24 month indemnity period.

Option to add all risks cover for medical equipment

We understand that medical equipment is costly and necessary to the running of your surgery. Optional cover to insure your medical equipment is available as part of our surgery insurance policy on an 'all risks' basis, meaning that there is no limit to how many items are taken away from your business, as long as this is only temporary.

Surgery Insurance Claims

Our in-house surgery insurance claims team is on hand Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm to support you. Furthermore, if you have a more urgent concern, we offer a 24-hour helpline.

For material damage and business interruption claims of over £5,000 you can count on our Claims Assist team. We will appoint a chartered loss adjuster specialising in the type of loss you have experienced to look after your interests and ensure the entire claims process is handled quickly, fairly and without unnecessary stress.

How often risk assessments are carried out can be vital in ensuring you are compliant. In the care industry however, there are extra factors to consider which make risk assessments even more important, particularly fire safety assessments.

Why do I need employers' liability insurance on my surgery policy?

You are required to have employers' liability insurance if your business has employees. The requirement applies irrespective of whether your staff are full or part time. The insurance covers your legal liability to employees if they are injured at work or become ill as a result of the work they do for you. The policy will cover your legal defence costs and will pay compensation to the employee if you have been negligent.

What do you mean by minimum standard of security on my policy?

To provide theft cover, your insurance company will require a minimum level of security on your premises, this will include:

  • Five lever mortise deadlocks complying with British Standard 3621 on all final exit doors

  • Key operated window locks to be fitted on all ground floor and accessible opening windows

Please refer to your policy wording for full details as the requirements can vary according to the type of door and windows you have. This will not apply to any door or window officially designated a fire exit by the Fire Authority.

I own a number of surgeries - can they all be insured under the same surgery insurance policy?

As long as the surgeries are all the same legal entity, we can cover as many surgeries at any one time as you like.

I have given the wrong professional advice. Can my client claim under my public liability policy?

No, your policy does not provide cover for professional negligence. A professional indemnity insurance policy would be required.

Can I pay for my surgery insurance policy in instalments?

If you would prefer to spread the cost of your policy you have the option of setting up a Direct Debit to pay your premium in equal monthly instalments through our preferred provider, Premium Credit Limited (PCL).
