Features of our travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions policy

Cover for personal money

Where possible, we would always recommend you keep your travel money on you or in a safety deposit box. If however, you find yourself in a situation where your travel money has been lost or stolen, then ensure you report it to the police within 24 hours of discovery. You’ll then be able to submit a claim for loss or theft of money up to £200 when you buy a Standard Policy or, if you intend on carrying more cash around with you, up to £500 on a Premier Policy.

Emergency medical treatment and expenses

Our 24 hour Emergency Assistance Facilities helpline will help you locate the nearest suitable facility if you fall ill on your trip, together with associated expenses such as a need for surgical or medical treatment. We’ll also cover travel and hotel costs if another person on your trip is required to travel with you for medical reasons. This doesn't apply to any routine non-emergency tests or treatment and just be aware an excess may apply to this section of cover.

Your personal possessions

Having your luggage lost or stolen is an unwelcome thought, especially if it happens in an unfamiliar country. Our pre-existing medical travel insurance includes cover for your personal possessions. If you find yourself in this situation then just be sure to report any stolen possessions to the local Police within 24 hours. We’ll also cover up to £100 for any essential items such as toiletries and a change of clothing in the meantime.

Cover for a range of medical conditions

We recognise that no two medical conditions are the same and they can affect people differently. We therefore work with the team at Travel Insurance Facilities (TIF) and Union Reiseversicherung (URV), who are experts trained to provide comprehensive and confidential medical screening on a case by case basis. We may be able to provide cover even if you've had treatment for a heart condition, a stroke or high blood pressure, a breathing condition or any type of cancer or diabetes. You just need to speak with experts at TIF, who will be able to confirm whether or not we can provide cover for you.

These are just some of the key features and exclusions, full details will be found in your policy wording. Show policy documents

Travel Insurance for Pre-Existing Medical Conditions Claims

This policy is administered by Travel Insurance Facilities (TIF) and Union Reiseversicherung AG (URV). TIF have a specialist travel claims team, so it's the friendly team at TIF you'll speak to if you need to make a claim.

They’ll talk you through the details of your claim and advise you of the next steps in the process. If you’re claiming for any stolen property, make sure you have reported your loss to the Police and have obtained a written report and reference number - this will help with your claim.

We would also recommend you share your policy details with your next of kin, just in case they need to act on your behalf should you fall ill and you’re unable to make any contact with our claims team.

Travel Insurance for Pre-Existing Medical Conditions FAQs

Will I be able to be insured if I have a medical condition?

This will be assessed on a case by case basis. The medical screening experts will ask you several questions relating to your health condition and this will determine whether we are able to offer you cover. Please be reassured, everything you tell the team is treated with the utmost confidentiality and your details will not be shared with anyone outside of the organisation.

Do I have to declare a pre-existing medical condition?

Yes. It’s very important you declare any pre-existing or reoccurring medical conditions. Use our online quote system or phone the experienced staff to go through a fast medical screening process to allow you to do this.

Can I get travel insurance if I have an operation coming up?

The policy may be able to provide cover 12 weeks after your operation or, if your doctor confirms you’re in remission. Anything prior to that and the policy may not cover you.

What do I do if I fall ill abroad?

The policy provides Emergency Assistance Facilities, offering a 24 hour advice line to support you in finding the treatment you need. Contact the advice line on 020 3829 6745. We recommend you keep this number handy when you’re travelling.
