What does our charity insurance cover?

Free risk support & e-learning

It’s important that your business fully complies with health and safety and HR obligations - this is why we have teamed up with one of our services partners to provide a free online service, ensuring you are up-to-date with the latest health and safety regulations, whilst protecting your premiums through effective risk management. We also provide e-learning to keep you up-to-date with legal requirements.

No need for additional policies

Our cover automatically provides cover for charity trustees up to £100,000, as well as business interruption up to £2 million, with the option to increase this as required. It also includes employers' liability, plus legal expenses cover for employees and volunteers. This means that you will not need to source multiple policies - leaving you with peace of mind, knowing that your charity is fully covered.

Delegated authority

At Towergate, we have delegated underwriting and claims authority all under one roof, which means our advisers are able to provide you with faster responses to your changes or claims - and in most cases without having to refer back to the insurers. What's more, we do not charge a fee to process your claim.

Optional add-ons

We understand that every charity has its own special requirements. That's why we have optional add-ons, ranging from computer breakdown cover to loss of excess insurance and personal accident cover to personal or fleet motor cover. Our array of cover add-ons allows you to tailor your policy to suit your charity's needs.

Charity Insurance Claims

Our in-house claims team is on hand Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm to support you. Furthermore, if you have a more urgent concern, we offer a 24-hour helpline too.

For material damage and business interruption claims of over £5,000 you can count on our Claims Assist team. We will appoint a chartered loss adjuster specialising in the type of loss you have experienced to look after your interests and ensure the entire claims process is handled quickly, fairly and without unnecessary stress.

Charity Insurance FAQs

Do I need separate liability insurance for a fundraising event I am organising?

Most fundraising events are automatically covered by the charity liability insurance section of our policy, but for others we may need additional information to provide you with adequate cover.

Do I need to extend my policy to cover the changes in the Corporate Manslaughter Act?

No, you do not need to extend your policy. Corporate Manslaughter Defence Costs cover has been included within our policy since the Act came into force in 2008.

Are volunteers covered?

Yes, our definition of an employee includes both paid and volunteer members of staff, hence full cover is extended to volunteers in all relevant sections of your policy.

What is business interruption cover and why is it so important?

Business interruption cover applies when an insured loss occurs resulting in you not being able to use your premises to deliver your services. Your premises could also be closed if a building nearby is damaged or affected by causes such as fire, storm damage, water damage & vehicle impact. The cover is designed to put your business back in the same financial position it was in before the loss occurred.

What is public liability insurance?

Public liability insurance provides cover against your legal liability to pay damages arising if ever a visitor to your business premises is injured on site, or if one of your employees injures a third party whilst working for you.

Do you cover property and contents?

Yes. Should a disaster such as a flood, fire, theft or vandalism occur, we will cover you up to £15,000 at any one location.

Can I pay for my charity insurance policy in instalments?

If you would like to spread the cost of your policy we offer the option to set up a direct debit to pay your premium in equal monthly instalments through our preferred provider, Premium Credit Limited (PCL).

To understand more about how PCL work together with Towergate, please read our regulatory information.
