Truck breakdown cover
RAC Truck Rescue offers cover for when your truck or HGV breaks down. They will manage the whole process for you, from initial call, through to roadside repair or recovery completion. This way, you can focus on running your business while the RAC protect it. With RAC, you can choose breakdown cover based on a 40, 100 or 200-mile recovery radius.
Roadside truck repair
The RAC know that when your truck has broken down, deliveries come to a stand-still. That’s why they aim to get to you as quickly as possible, day or night, weekday, or weekend. RAC truck breakdown insurance provides specialist contractors to provide an immediate roadside response. If your vehicle can be safely and quickly repaired there and then, then it will be.
If your vehicle can’t be quickly repaired at the roadside, depending on the mileage limit selected when you arrange your cover, it will be recovered to a destination of your choice within a 40-, 100-, or 200-mile radius of where your truck breaks down. Our ‘buy-right’ experts can advise you on cover and help you arrange suitable truck breakdown insurance.
Truck breakdown insurance recovery
Your cover includes a truck breakdown recovery service. If your truck cannot be fixed at the roadside, it will be recovered to a destination of your choice within a 40, 100 or 200-mile radius of where your truck breaks down (depending on your cover). To report a breakdown, call RAC on the phone number you are given when you take out your policy and give them:
- Your breakdown insurance policy number.
- Your vehicle registration number and vehicle details.
- Your breakdown location and a brief description of the vehicle fault.

Truck breakdown insurance FAQs
Yes, trucks up to 44t gross vehicle weight can be covered.
Cover applies to vehicles that are at least one mile away from where the vehicle is normally stored overnight. Breakdowns on your own premises are not covered.
Subject to acceptance, full details of premium instalment plans will be provided when you get your quote, together with the relevant charges.
Cover is provided for recovery to a single destination of your choice, up to the mileage as shown on your schedule if the RAC cannot repair the vehicle at the roadside.
If it’s just the trailer that’s broken down, RAC will only attend at the roadside and attempt a repair. No other benefits of the truck breakdown insurance policy are available
All cover is subject to the insurer's policy wording. Policies do not cover vehicle not declared and accepted in advance to the insurer. Vehicle recovery is subject to a mileage radius limit.
