Types of home care we cover

Care services and their businesses come in all shapes and sizes, and cater to many different users – from self employed or private carers, to larger agencies. Care specific cover

As well as the more standard business insurances the care industry face a set of unique risks which our care policies are designed to cover. These include things like medical malpractice insurance, infectious disease cover and protection against loss of registration. Our trained advisers are on hand to discuss your risks and cover your home care business for all the risk s you may face.

Liability insurance for carers

While most policies will include public liability insurance for carers at £5 million as standard (our policy does this too) there are times when you may need to temporarily or permanently raise this limit to £10 million in order to tender for a public contract. We offer you flexible limits so you won’t miss out on quality contracts, or the chance to grow your business.

HR solutions

As part of our home care policy, we offer you access to a HR portal - elXtr provided by Abbey Legal. With access to fact sheets, legal documents, legal news and an employee handbook specifically designed for the care sector, elXtr offers guidance and information for any legal issues you may have. Whether you’re looking for advice for a potential problem or just want some facts on a certain topic, with our policy you will have access to this service 24-7 for the duration of your policy, meaning you will always have up to date documents and legislation for your business.

Home Care Insurance Claims

Our in-house care insurance claims team are on hand Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm to support you. Furthermore, if you have a more urgent concern, we offer a 24 hour helpline too.

If a member of staff loses the keys to the service user's home, does my policy cover this?

We pay for replacement locks up to a maximum amount of £2000.

If an employee was found to have stolen property or money belonging to a service user, would our policy cover this?

Yes. We provide cover up to a maximum of £25,000, if you are legally liable.

What is the Stress Helpline and who can use it?

The Stress Helpline is a 24-hour confidential telephone helpline and is available for you or any employee of your business to use.

What additional benefits are available to UKHCA members?

All UKHCA members who take out a home care policy with Towergate will receive a 10% discount off our standard premium*. In addition, as part of the core policy you will receive the driver safety e-learning module and a risk management audit; We also offer a members business benefits package including; directors' and officers' liability insurance, motor fleet, mortgage advice, pensions and other financial products and a staff benefits package including; household, travel and mortgage advice? *Discount is applied before IPT and customer service charge. All cover is subject to insurers terms and conditions.

Will legal advice be offered by trained solicitors or barristers, with experience within the care sector?

Yes, all enquiries are handled by a dedicated team specialising in care. Legal advice is only given by qualified solicitors and barristers and the claims team are all qualified with a law degree as a minimum.

Does my policy include abuse cover?

Yes. The policy does not exclude abuse and will protect you where you are legally liable for allegations made against you for the likes of sexual, mental and physical attacks on service users.

Is there anyone in your company to help us with registration issues that we may encounter?

We have an independent registration consultant retained solely by us, who helps our clients with any queries they may have. Our legal helpline can also assist you in keeping your business operational.

Where can I find more information about monthly Direct Debit?

If you would like to spread the cost of your policy we offer the option to set up a direct debit to pay your premium in equal monthly instalments through our preferred provider, Premium Credit Limited (PCL).
