Mediators Features

Choose from limits between £1m and £5m for a variety of liability covers including:

Optional extras

*Home business insurance – Do you practice from home or have an office? You may be required to up-date your home insurance policy to account for the extra activity. We can provide specialist home insurance for mediators or advise you of your options, in addition to your professional liability policy as required.

Employers’ liability cover – Do you have employees? Employer’s liability insurance is a legal requirement and is designed to protect your staff for injury or loss whilst performing their job. We can include this cover simply and easily.

Training extension - Available for an additional £52.50 if you train others in mediation.

Member of a professional body?

Many professionals can receive preferential rates as members of a professional body. Let your advisor know which organisations you are a member of and see what discounts you could receive.

Prefer to spread the cost of your policy?

Paying by direct debit is an affordable and convenient way to pay for your policy. Through our preferred provider, Premium Credit Limited (PCL)*, you have the option of setting up a Direct Debit to pay your premium in equal monthly instalments.

Exclusions

Mediators Exclusions

The policy is designed to cover any civil liability arising from your business - but there are a few specific exclusions:

  • Injuries to employees in the course of their employment with you (employers’ liability insurance can be arranged separately)
  • Business risks such as contracts with suppliers or trading losses
  • Any intentional act, unless this is part of the services you provide
  • Liabilities which should be insured under other types of policy
  • Any claim arising out of work for a business in which you have a controlling interest or for which you can make a major policy decision

Exclusions will change depending on your profession and your advisor will take you through these during the quotation process. This list of exclusions is a summary and is not a full list of all exclusions that may apply.

Does it matter how many clients I see weekly/monthly etc?

No, we do not need to know how many clients you will be seeing throughout the policy year.

Can I work from home?

We can provide cover for you to work from home automatically within the policy, however we need to make you aware that if anything was to get damaged within the home then this will come under the home insurance and so you will need to let your home insurers know.

Do you need to see my qualifications?

We do not need to see a copy of these. We will insure you on the upmost faith that you have experience and qualifications in the area that you would like to be insured for. If a claim was made against you this may be when we would need to see evidence of this.

Do you cover long distance Learning Courses?

Yes, we do not specify how much experience you have in the area or where you studied.

Is there an age limit?

No, we do not specify the age.

Can I pay monthly?

Yes we have monthly direct debit options, please call to discuss.

Can I work with animals?

Yes we can cover work with both animals and humans, please call to discuss.

Can I work overseas?

Yes we can provide cover for you to work outside of the UK as long as you live and are based in the UK and do not have any assets in the country you would like to work in, for example a house. As it is a UK policy if a claim was made for the work you have done in another country we would then need to bring the claim back to the UK to go through UK courts. If you had a house in the country for example, they would then try to take monies from your assets to protect the claim.

As claims go, Mediators insurance claims are up there with the more complex ones. It’s important you go about claiming in the right way so that an already complex claim doesn’t get any more complicated. Follow the simple steps below and you can’t go far wrong.

What to do

If you need to claim you should:

  • Contact us immediately
  • Forward any correspondence relating to the potential claim
  • Avoid speaking to the claimant or their representative(s) (this may prejudice the outcome)

Even if you’ve got a slight inkling that a claim may arise, get in touch with us and let us know. We’re here to support you throughout the claims process and can offer guidance right from the start of the process.

We won’t ask you to fill in any forms. We’ll get all the information we need when we speak to you on the phone and our team will offer advice on the next steps to take and put your mind at rest.

The premium had gone up again and every year there is an attempt to raise it by 10% which is ridiculous as nothing has changed
