Features of our mobility home insurance

Specialist mobility equipment for your home

Our home policy includes cover for scooters, wheelchairs, hoists, stair lifts, ramps, floor lifts and oxygen equipment, giving you reassurance that you have protection for your specialist items. Please note, damage from wear and tear, mechanical breakdown, or gradual deterioration is not covered under this policy. Accidental damage cover and cover outside the home are optional extensions.

Travel and meal expenses

If your mobility aids are lost, damaged or stolen and you are housebound following a valid claim, our policy will pay up to £25 per day for travel and meal expenses, such as taxis, takeaways and grocery deliveries.

Temporary accommodation if your home is uninhabitable

Should your home become uninhabitable and we cannot find any appropriate alternative accommodation, we can arrange a temporary pod to be installed on site, keeping your home comforts, pets and equipment with you. Facilities of the pod which are designed for disabled access can include: optional lift access, shower and wet room shower tray, alarm cord for assistance and fold down rails to help pull down and push up from a seated position.

24-hour legal advice and family protection

Family legal protection and a 24-hour legal advice helpline is included automatically in your home insurance policy. We can also include optional loss recovery assistance offering you independent advice from an expert loss adjuster, who will deal directly with the insurer on your behalf to help negotiate and settle larger claims.

Mobility Home Insurance FAQs

I have a few necessary expensive and important items and adaptations in my home – will your policy cover these?

Yes – our policy provides the same cover as our standard home insurance, as well as cover for specialist equipment, including oxygen apparatus and lifts, at no extra cost to you. Please note, damage from wear and tear, mechanical breakdown, or gradual deterioration is not covered under this policy. Accidental damage cover and cover outside the home are optional extensions.

What happens if a vital piece of my equipment ends up out of service?

If you have a specialist piece of kit that ends up out of service due to an incident which is covered by your home policy, we will provide payment for takeaway food, taxi fares and grocery deliveries.

In the case of my home becoming uninhabitable, what happens to my equipment?

If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate situation where your home is not fit to live in, following an incident which is covered by your home insurance policy, we work with The Temporary Kitchen Company to ensure that you and your family can stay on the site of your home, meaning that you retain your home comforts.

My current home insurance is due for renewal very soon, how quickly can you arrange cover?

We can usually provide immediate cover once you have received and agreed to your quote. We will always try to cater to your circumstances, so just let us know if this is the case.

Can I pay for my home insurance in instalments?

If you would prefer to spread the cost of your policy you have the option of setting up a Direct Debit to pay your premium in equal monthly instalments through our preferred provider, Premium Credit Limited (PCL).

To learn more about how PCL and Towergate work together, please read our regulatory information.
