Contents insurance for tenants and households

Whether you live alone or with a partner, in a rented home, or you share the property with housemates, we can provide tenants' insurance for a variety of scenarios. So whether you want protection for your bedroom only, the entire house collectively, or the whole house by yourself, we can offer you straight forward cover.

Furnished or unfurnished insurance?

Does your landlord require you to insure their buildings, fixtures and furnishings as part of your tenancy agreement? We can provide £5,000 for accidental damage as well as a value set by you for your own contents. We can also provide new for old cover on everything except clothing and linen.

Single item and valuables cover

For each valuable item in the home we can provide up to £1,000 - and you can choose to add items that leave the home as you need; such as phones, laptops and bicycles. Just let us know what you have and we’ll make sure it’s included in your policy.

Accidental damage insurance

Accidental damage cover is not always included as standard on a tenant’s contents insurance policy for your own belongings. And sometimes you may be charged extra for the privilege. We include this as standard on all policies sold so there won’t be any nasty surprises.

With our tenant’s contents insurance, you can rest assured that if the worst should happen you will benefit from a dedicated claims team who will give you the support you need until your claim is resolved.

Simply call us and we will help you with your claim, taking you through your next steps, from completing the claim form and obtaining estimates for repair or replacement and guiding you through the process, to your authorised repairs or settlement. And where necessary, our specialist loss adjusters will be available to help you too.

Tenants' Insurance FAQs

What is the difference between tenants' contents insurance and home contents insurance?

Both cover your own contents against fire, lightning, theft, storm, flood etc. The main difference between the two is that generally, in rented properties, not all of the contents belong to you (the resident). Our tenants' contents insurance includes cover for up to £5,000 in respect of accidental damage to your landlord’s contents, fixtures and fittings, all of which are not normally included in a standard home contents policy.

I live in a property shared with friends, am I eligible for cover?

Yes, cover is available for houses, bungalows, maisonettes, individual flats and flats in halls of residence with up to six unrelated people who are sharing.

Is my mobile phone/laptop covered?

Optional cover is available for mobile phones and laptops – this must be taken if the items are to be covered in or out of the home. Cover for your home desktop computer is included as standard.

Does this policy renew each year?

Yes, it does - and when your policy is due to expire, we’ll send you a renewal invite explaining everything you need to know.

Can I pay by direct debit?
