Accidental Damage

Accidental damage cover for holiday homes

We offer accidental damage as standard for owner occupied holiday home properties. For rented or lent properties you can choose to extend your Accidental Damage cover to include damage by any guests, subject to a written rental agreement being in place for rentals.

Alternative accommodation

Temporary Accommodation or Loss of Hiring Charges included as standard if your property is uninhabitable following an insured event at the property.

Natural catastrophe cover

In the event of a natural disaster, damaging the property to the point where guests can no longer stay, you may be able to claim back what you would have earned during that stay. If you would like to rent your holiday home to friends and family, please make us aware in advance as we will need to update your policy to include cover for this.

We also cover a variety of property types including chalets, cottages, apartments, lodges and villas, and cover requirements including Airbnb rentals.

When you need to make a claim, we'll guide you through the process and get your claim settled as quickly as possible.

Spanish holiday home insurance FAQs

No, if you have a holiday home in any of the following countries you are eligible to apply for a policy: the UKthe Republic of IrelandFrance, Portugal, Greece and Southern Cyprus.

Even if your Spanish property does not fit the definition of a holiday home, our underwriting team can assess your unique circumstances and may be able to provide a tailored policy for you. Your property may be eligible for second home insurance - but if not, we may still be able to find you an appropriate cover. Please call the team to discuss your situation.

For most customers, your policy will be unchanged after the end of the Brexit transition period on 1 January 2021.

  • If you’re a permanent resident in the UK, with properties in the UK, your policy and cover won’t change at all.
  • If you’re a permanent resident in the UK, with properties in the EU, your policy and cover won’t change at all.
  • If you’re a permanent resident in the EU, with properties in the UK, your policy and cover won’t change at all.
  • However, if you are a permanent resident or domiciled in the EU, with properties in the EU, unfortunately we will not be able to cover you after 1 January 2021. Your policy will be cancelled on 1 January 2020 and you will need to seek an alternative provider. We will be contacting you directly if your policy is due to be cancelled.

  • If you’re a permanent resident in the EU, with properties in the UK, we will still be able to cover you.
  • However, if you are a permanent resident in the EU, with properties in the EU, unfortunately we will not be able to cover you after 1 January 2021. Your policy will be cancelled and you will need to seek an alternative provider. We will be contacting you directly if your policy is due to be cancelled.

If you have a unique case, our Specialist Property team can assess your individual circumstances to confirm if we have a policy for you. As mentioned above it may fit into the category of second home insurance but if not we may still be able to find cover that fits, call the team to discuss your circumstances and we will try our best to find you cover.

We provide cover for replacement keys to external doors of the home, alarm systems and domestic safes fitted in the home if the keys are accidentally lost or stolen.

It depends on the type of property and policy cover you have. For holiday home cover (‘not let’), if you have accidental damage included in your policy, you will be covered for use by friends and family, so long as you are not letting the property for cash reward. If you have second home insurance, you just need to let us know.

If you are planning on renting your property, you can also get extended holiday home insurance for when your property is ‘let’. Speak to one of our friendly advisors to find out more.

The requirements of your policy will not change, and as your guests may not be familiar with your property it is worth carrying out an inspection after they have left. Your guests must leave the property in accordance with the unoccupied element of your cover, please refer to your policy documents.
