Our psychotherapist insurance policy includes the following features:

Compensation claims covered

Your policy provides cover for compensation and legal defence costs in the event of claims for professional negligence, breach of confidentiality and injury to clients or members of the public. Knowing that this can be covered by your insurance will give you greater peace of mind.

Free legal helpline

As well as covering successful compensation claims against you, our policies can also cover you for the defence costs of an unsuccessful claim, including loss of earnings. If you suspect a claim is being raised against you, we’ve teamed up with a 24-hour helpline service which can provide instant impartial advice.

Worldwide cover including telephone and internet calls

Our psychotherapist insurance policies cover you to work anywhere in the world and also include cover for work which occurs over the telephone or on internet calls with services such as Skype. We can arrange cover for you for a variety of different work styles.

Marketing in the Care Industry

The care industry is changing with uncertainty around future local authority funding, direct payments and privately funded care, as well as changes in the CQC's inspection programmes and the consumer 'rate-your-care' scheme. For those in the care industry, staying ahead means adapting and taking control of the future.

An Employer’s Duty of Care to Lone Workers

Domiciliary care workers often work alone. Without a clear understanding of the law, the hazards and what preventative measures should be taken, employers leave their people open to risk and themselves exposed to employers’ liability claims.

A Guide to Public Liability Insurance

Public liability insurance could be the most important cover you have. Psychotherapists Insurance FAQs

How do I know how much cover I need as a psychotherapist?

For their own liability reasons, insurance companies are unlikely to advise you exactly on how much cover you need. It is your responsibility to take out sufficient cover, although our advisers can explain your options over the phone and how you might want to calculate this cost. Otherwise, many industry organisations or professional bodies will likely be able to offer your some advice.

I only work as a psychotherapist at home, do I still need professional indemnity insurance?

Yes. Professionals who send out products, offer advice of some kind, or provide some services from their own home can still cause harm for which they may be liable. For this reason it’s important you don’t make an assumption that you can’t do any damage when tucked away in your own home, and speak with an adviser about your risks.

What happens if I retire or cease trading?

When you stop trading or retire as a psychotherapist we recommend you maintain a policy called ‘run off’ cover. This means claims raised against you for an event that happened while you were still a psychotherapist are covered (a claim can be raised at any time up to three years after the incident). When you are ready we can arrange cover for you for this.

Do I receive a discount as a member of a professional association?

Many of our psychotherapist customers can get a discount on their insurance simply by being a member of a professional association or industry body. This means you can get specific cover with great discounts! Speak to one of our advisers to find out how much you can save.

Can I pay in instalments?

If you would prefer to spread the cost of your policy, you can set up a direct debit to pay your premium in equal monthly instalments through our preferred provider, Premium Credit Limited (PCL).
