Beach Hut of the Year Winner 2012

Patricia Bevan is the well-deserved winner of this year’s Beach Hut of the Year competition, fighting off competition from all over the UK with her red, white and blue theme. The judges commented that her hut, located at Westward Ho! in North Devon, ‘epitomises the Great British seaside in the spirit of this year’s Jubilee celebrations’.

The judges said: 'Patricia's hut manages to combine retro, seaside and a strong patriotic theme that completely sums up this summer.’

Patricia had always dreamed of owning a beach hut, and after an 18 month wait she managed to get hold of it, immediately setting out to decorate it traditionally, scouring the shops for patriotic accessories to go with the red, white and blue theme. Patricia told us:

‘It's exactly how I think a British beach hut should look. I try to go there at least twice a week. It's never lonely there as you get to know all the other people in their beach huts.

'It's lovely to go there and make a cup of tea and sit and watch the world go by. The hut is in a perfect position right by the sea and it really feels like home.'

The hutter community is an intrinsic part of the British seaside, with over 20,000 beach hut owners, many of which belong to local Beach Hut Associations. Have a look at our video about the benefits of joining a beach hut association.

Everyone at Towergate would like to congratulate Patricia and her hut for winning the competition.
