Hi, my name is Ben Leach, and I'm an advisor for Towergate.
In this video we’re going to look at some of the basics of public liability insurance.
So what exactly is it?
Well, it’s a type of insurance that protects your business should a member of the public suffer an injury, loss or damage to themselves or their property through some kind of negligence.
And in simple terms that means, if someone sues your business because it was negligent in anyway then public liability insurance can meet the payment for the compensation claim.
It can help to understand with some examples….
If some liquid was spilt in your shop and a customer slips over because it hadn’t quickly been cleared up or warned against, you could be liable for a compensation claim because the customer can claim that you failed in your ‘duty of care’ to maintain a safe environment for people when doing business with you.
Or if your delivery driver accidentally knocked over a delivery of heavy boxes doing some damage in a customer’s home, the customer has then suffered a loss at the fault of the delivery driver and can claim for reimbursement and compensation.
These are the sort of practical needs businesses have for public liability.
Accidents happen, even with every precaution taken. With public liability insurance however, you’ll be confident you are doing right by your customers, as well as protecting your business.
