Continuing hire charges cover for stolen or damaged plant

If your hired-in plant suffers theft or damage and is a total loss, you will still be liable for the continuing hire costs payable to the hire company until it is replaced or repaired. . These charges are covered for the hire period.

Cover for a range of hired-in plant equipment

We cover a full range of hired-in equipment from earth moving equipment, material handling, construction equipment and construction vehicles to smaller and specialist equipment hire. This includes popular hired-in equipment such as dumpers, diggers, fork lifts and cherry pickers as well as more specialist items such as air conditioners, heaters, dehumidifiers and dryers.

What is hired-in plant?


Hired-in plant refers to any item of plant or equipment that that have temporarily leased or hired under contract. In these circumstances it is normal for you to become liable for loss of damage to the plant by way of the contract hire conditions.


Why do I need hired-in plant insurance?


When you hire an item of plant, you enter into a hire contract making you responsible for loss or damage to the plant whilst in your custody or control.

Hired-in plant insurance provides peace of mind and protection against the risk of the plant being stolen or damaged. If one of these incidents occurred you would be legally liable to replace the plant, which you may not have the money to do.

When arranging cover you must take care to accurately assess the maximum value of any one item of equipment that you are hiring, as well as the maximum total value of all the equipment that you will have hired in at any one time.


What are hired-in charges and how are they calculated?


Premiums for hired-in plant insurance are based on the total annual payments you make for hiring in equipment.

Total hire charges provide a guide as to amount of risk you are exposed to over a year. The more frequently you hire plant, the higher the annual hiring charges will be.

Hired-in charges are the total annual costs you pay for the hire of items of plant from tool/plant hire companies.

We offer standard cover against malicious damage, fire and theft for hired-in plant from a minimum total value of hired in plant at any one time of £25,000. This sum can be tailored for you up to £100,000 or even higher using our panel of insurers.


Can I just take out hired-in plant insurance with you?


We normally only arrange your hired-in plant cover as part of your public liability insurance. Speak to our advisors to discuss your specific hired-in plant insurance requirements.


Do you offer hired-in plant insurance for personal use?


Our hired-in plant insurance is only available for commercial policies. We are unable to offer hired-in plant insurance for personal use.
