Holiday flats, houses, chalets, cottages and apartments we can cover you for the following:

We cover a range of property types

Holiday home cover with Towergate can be applied to your apartment, flat, cottage, static caravan or chalet whether you use it for holidays or you let it out. We cover the UK and Southern Ireland as well as Bulgaria, Spain, France, Southern Cyprus, Portugal, Italy, Greece. The exception is static caravans, we can only cover these in Spain, Portugal and France. If you have a UK based static caravan we recommend speaking to our leisure home team in Cheltenham. For more information visit our static caravan page.

Accidental damage

Accidents happen so we cover accidental damage to your building or contents. In addition, for those of you who let your property, we cover accidental damage to contents while the property is let. For this cover to apply you must have evidence of a signed rental agreement for the period of the guest's stay. If your keys are lost or stolen we also include cover for replacement locks so you know the property is secure again.

24 hour emergency helpline and travel expenses

If your holiday home is in the UK we have a helpline for you too. A 24 hour helpline is available for repairs in the event of an emergency. This will cover emergencies such as burst water pipes in order to stop the problem from causing more damage. You can check are policy wording for a full list of scenarios. We do ask that you ensure your gas, electric and water are turned off when you are away from the property to avoid extra risk. If your holiday home is abroad this cover will not apply but we will pay £300 for you and £300 for a family member to travel to the property as well as £400 for accommodation if needed, that way you can go over and make sure everything’s okay.

Property owner’s liability Insurance

All kinds of scenarios can lead to a property liability claim. It’s when a third party (someone who is not family) is injured, or their property is damaged as a result of an incident linked to your property. For those of you with a holiday let, this could be someone you let the home to or, if you have employees i.e. a gardener, this could relate to a claim they make against you. There are varying values and terms depending on the circumstances and country which holiday home is in. We always recommend reading the policy wording to make sure you are happy.

These are just some of the key features and exclusions, full details will be found in your policy wording. Show policy documents

We believe claiming should be hassle free.

We have a 24 hour claims helpline available so you can report your claim as soon as it happens.

Once reported the team aim to call you back within 24 hours with the next steps, just note that if you report your claim at the weekend we aim to call back on the following Monday.

Photographs of any damage will help us to move your claim along more quickly so please take a few photos if you can. You can email these across to .

What makes my property a holiday home?

The main criteria which make a property a holiday home are how you use it and how often you go there. If you just use the home for holidays or holiday lets and you don’t visit frequently then it’s likely to be classed as a holiday home. If you have a property which you visit more frequently, say for work or to visit nearby relatives, then it could be considered a second home in insurance terms. Check out our Second Home Insurance page for more information.

My property does not fit into the category of a holiday home, can you still insure me?

If you have a unique case we can go to our underwriting team to assess your individual circumstances and find a policy for you. As mentioned above it may fit into the category of Second Home Insurance but if not we may still be able to find cover that fits, call the team to discuss your circumstances and we will try our best to find you cover.

If something happens to my holiday home what can I do?

We provide £300 towards a flight for you and £300 towards a flight for a family member to travel to the holiday home if £300 for fights for you and £300 flight for a family member with £400

How can I pay for my premium?

Debit or credit card payments are both accepted but credit card comes with a 1% charge.
You can also pay by cheque:
Towergate Insurance,
Suite N,
The Octagon,

Why can't I get standard buildings and contents cover for my unoccupied home?

Most providers will not insure properties which are left unoccupied for more than 30 days at a time, which is why you need to come to a specialist provider.
